Bradley A Keywell (born October 27, 1969) is a U.S.-born serial entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of MediaBank LLC, a technology firm providing procurement systems, analytics platforms, and trading functionality to the advertising and media buying industry. He is the co-founder of Echo Global Logistics LLC, a transportation management firm headquartered in Chicago, which provides transportation procurement and management. He is a founder and principal of Groupon, Inc., a group purchasing platform on the web that utilizes a ‘tipping point’ methodology based on collective buying. He is a founder of Lightbank, a platform for cultivating technology concepts and incubating new disruptive technology businesses.[1]

Keywell is also currently managing partner of Meadow Lake Management LLC, a Chicago-based private equity and consulting firm. He teaches a class at Chicago Booth School of Business on entrepreneurship and disruptive technology.

Previous Work

Keywell was previously with Equity Group Investments, LLC, Sam Zell’s investment vehicle, and serving as Board liaison to several portfolio companies. He is the former President of HA-LO Industries, a brand marketing organization and provider of promotional products. In January, 2000, HA-LO acquired Starbelly, an online promotional product supply chain management technology firm which Keywell founded in May, 1999.

In 2001, Keywell authored Biz Dev 3.0: Changing Business as We Know It, published by ALM Publishing. In 2008, Keywell was a contributing author of Creating Entrepreneurs: Making Miracles Happen, by Dr. Fred Keisner, published by World Scientific Publishing.

In February 2005, Keywell and business partner Eric Lefkofsky created a freight logistics company called Echo Global Logistics. In October, 2009, Echo Global Logisitics went public on the NASDAQ. Keywell and Lefkofsky created MediaBank, Inc. in 2006, a private company providing technology to enable media buying and analytics. In 2007, Keywell, Lefkofsky and Andrew Mason created Groupon, Inc.[2] (formerly known as The Point.com) a private company enabling group buying and group action through the web.

Awards and honors

Keywell was named one of the nation’s Top Ten Collegiate Entrepreneurs in 1991 by the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs. He received the 2000 Conrad Hilton Distinguished Entrepreneur Award from Loyola Marymount University. He was named one of the “Internet 100” by Crain’s Chicago Business.[3]

Public Speaking

Keywell speaks at technology and marketing industry events, as well as a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan Business School, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, DePaul University, and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He has been a Judge for the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business New Venture Challenge.

Connect To The Future

Keywell founded the "Connect To The Future" (formerly Share Our Success) program in the Chicago Public Schools system, a program which pairs professionals from business, medicine, the arts, and the community with classes from grades six through nine. The objective is to give the students an opportunity to learn about potential future careers and exposure to what type of opportunities result from hard work. Connect to the Future is now co-sponsored by Renaissance 2010, an umbrella organization facilitating the creation of charter schools in Chicago.

Digital Leadership Exchange

He founded the Digital Leadership Exchange, a CEO-level networking organization, in partnership with Spencer Stuart.

Boards

He is currently on the Foundation Board of Trustees[4] of NorthShore University HealthSystem (formerly Evanston Northwestern Healthcare). He is also on the Board of Trustees of Imerman Angels, a one-on-one cancer support organization. He is on the board of IRTS Foundation.[5] Keywell served on the Board of Trustees of Columbia College Chicago, and was a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. He is on the Board of Directors of Warrior Productions, a documentary filmmaker whose principal produced Hoop Dreams. He is a Trustee of the University of Michigan Hillel Foundation, and a member of the Chicago chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization.

Education

Keywell received his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School (1993) and his Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from the Ross School of business at the University of Michigan (1991). He also studied in 1990 at the London School of Economics. He is a member of the State Bar of Illinois and the Michigan Bar Association.
